Interview Guide

Prepared, not rehearsed.

Interviews reward clarity. This guide covers the preparation that changes the outcome and skips the parts that only raise your heart rate.

Research that actually helps

Know what the company sells, who buys it and what changed in the last year. Two specifics are worth more than an hour of skimming.

Four stories, endlessly reusable

Prepare a hard decision, a failure you owned, a result you drove and a difficult collaboration. Most questions are a variation on one of these.

Structure your answers

Situation, what you did, what happened, what you would change. Two minutes is usually enough; leave room for the follow-up question.

Questions that reveal the role

Ask how success is measured, what the first ninety days look like, and what the team found hard last quarter. Vague answers are information too.

Talking about money

Know the range you will accept before the call. Give a range with a reason, and treat the first number as the start of a conversation.

A follow-up that lands

A short note within a day: thank them, restate one thing you would tackle first, and answer anything you fumbled. Then move on to the next role.

A ninety-minute prep block

  • 0–30 minutes: company context, the product, and one recent change worth asking about.
  • 30–70 minutes: adapt your four stories to the responsibilities in the listing.
  • 70–90 minutes: write your questions, confirm the logistics and stop.
